The Virginia Lottery launched Pick 5 on August 14, 2022, completing the state's daily numbers lineup alongside Pick 3 and Pick 4. Available with the popular Fireball add-on from day one, Pick 5 quickly established a strong following among players across Richmond, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Arlington, Alexandria, Roanoke, and surrounding counties.
Pick 5 is played by selecting 5 digits from 0 through 9 (from 00000 to 99999). Players can wager in increments of $0.50 or $1.00 across Exact Order (Straight), Any Order (Box: 5-way, 10-way, 20-way, 30-way, 60-way, 120-way), 50/50, Front/Back 4, Front/Back 3, and Front/Back Pair combinations. Adding the optional Fireball (for an additional cost equal to your base wager) draws a separate Fireball digit from 0 to 9 that can replace any of the 5 drawn winning numbers, creating multiple new winning combinations on a single ticket!
100% of proceeds from Pick 5 benefit Virginia K-12 Public Education. Winning Pick 5 tickets remain valid for 180 days from the drawing date. Under Virginia state law, winners of prizes greater than $10,000 can choose 100% anonymity. Prizes up to $500 can be cashed at authorized lottery retailers, while top $50,000 prizes can be claimed at Virginia Lottery Customer Service Centers or online. Prizes over $5,000 are subject to 24% federal tax and 4.0% Virginia state income tax withholding.
